AFCON 2023 Tournament Rules
In each group, each team will play the other three once. The teams are ranked according to points (3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, 0 points for a loss). After the group matches, the top two teams from each group and the best four third-placed teams qualify for the Round of 16.
If two or more teams are tied on points, the tiebreaker is the head-to-head matches, followed by goal difference, and goals scored among the tied teams. If the teams are tied after all these tiebreakers, there will be drawing of lots to determine which team(s) proceed.
For the Round of 16, Quarter-finals, Semi-finals, 3rd-place playoff, and final, there will be extra-time and even penalties to determine the winner if the teams are tied after regular time.
